DIY Bird Feeder Success

I am so very chuffed to announce that the DIY bird feeders have been a resounding success.  In the past couple of weeks there has been increased bird activity in the garden and the joy of hearing birds and birds and more birds on waking up is just exquisite.  We even have a dove nesting just outside my office. Got to witness nature’s drama one afternoon when the stronger chick pushed the weaker one out of the nest.  Kind of sad, but there was no way the little one would have made it, so we let nature run its course.  Mom and surviving baby are well and making a craptucular mess of pillar they are nesting on…

As for the French drains, they are turning out to be a little bit more involved than what I initially thought they would be.  Oh, wait no last time I was still doing the gabions.  Anyway so that plan changed into French drains when Nella told me about her stepfather’s success with them.  Bought the hardware (can you say hoe?!) and the gravel but now the challenge lies in getting the trenches at the correct angles.  I am possibly overthinking it way too much, but because the problem area is bordered by a retainer wall and the garage I am just scared I might cause even bigger problems with damp.  Anyway my very smart pretend husband is also marinating the problem so between the two of us I am sure we’ll come up with a plan that will work.  And when we do, hopefully before the next big rain, I’ll make sure to post the fruits of our mental labour :).
